And by all means go dressed!! People DO want face-to-face connections and human interaction. The bar scene was everything to me and I cannot ever forget it.

These gay bars were intended to be safe havens, but they were largely owned and patronized by cisgender gay men, a trend that persisted in the gay nightlife community for decades. He says the setting of the Standard is exactly what is going to make No Bar effective.
From the start, Bermudez says, the bars offered refuge to a maligned minority beginning to test its social boundaries. These masculinity norms exert a toll on everyone, even their perpetrators. They tip better. But the real effect of the apps is quieter, less remarked-upon and, in a way, more profound: For many of us, they have become the primary way we interact with other gay people.
